The moment they finished high school, they were gone and didn't look back. Most of my friends that were LGBT packed up and went to Charlotte, Atlanta, Asheville or even Raleigh years ago. Yes, there are many LGBT individuals that have moved to Greenville because they enjoy the city but even after awhile, they move on as well. I can tell you with all honesty that Greenville is not gay friendly. I speak as someone who was born and raised in Greenville and lived all over the Upstate up until this year when I packed it up and moved myself. Asheville, Charlotte and Atlanta are the best choices in this area of the south. Spartanburg is a much better choice at least it has a gay bar, and seems to be becoming the only place you could begin to call a "gay mecca" in the entire upstate. I do have to add, though, that the First Baptist Church here is very accepting of gays and the pastor has even written a book in support of gays. I've known of more than a few who've gotten job transfers out of Greenville because there is NO gay scene, other than some private "clicks." There hasn't even been a gay bar since Nov. Gays have moved here because they liked the beautiful city so much, but forget about being gay here, it's hard. Kevin James Loibl, 27, was arrested in connection with her death.NO, Greenville is NOT a gay friendly city.
